Where UK Data Hub gets its public data

UK Data Hub combines selected public datasets and APIs into readable dashboards. This page explains what each source group is used for, how often the information may update and what users should keep in mind when interpreting the figures.

Energy and carbon intensity

Electricity demand, generation mix, renewable share, interconnector flows and regional carbon intensity.

Main sources

  • NESO / National Grid electricity system data
  • Elexon and public electricity market feeds
  • Carbon Intensity API

Refresh and limits

Near-real-time where feeds allow; some values may be cached for stability.

Live values can be revised and different feeds may update at different intervals.

Weather, forecasts and air quality

Current weather, daily and hourly forecasts, UK temperature context and air-quality indicators.

Main sources

  • Open-Meteo weather and air-quality data
  • Geocoding and postcode lookups where needed

Refresh and limits

Typically refreshed regularly during the day, depending on endpoint and cache state.

Forecasts are modelled and become less certain further ahead. Local microclimates may differ.

Fuel prices

Petrol and diesel station search, fuel-type comparison, national summaries and local price context.

Main sources

  • UK Government fuel price data
  • Retailer-supplied forecourt price feeds where present

Refresh and limits

Regular feed checks; individual station prices depend on retailer update times.

A price can change before the next feed update. Not every fuel grade may be available at every station.

Economy indicators

Inflation, GDP, unemployment, Bank Rate, exchange rates and oil price context.

Main sources

  • Office for National Statistics
  • Bank of England
  • Public market and exchange-rate feeds

Refresh and limits

Official statistics follow release calendars; market indicators may update more frequently.

Official statistics can be revised. Dashboard refresh time is not always the same as publication time.

Health and NHS pressure

Waiting lists, cancer waiting-time measures, ambulance response indicators and seasonal respiratory context.

Main sources

  • NHS England public statistical workbooks
  • Selected public-health datasets where available

Refresh and limits

Checked regularly, but many underlying datasets are monthly or weekly.

Health data is devolved across the UK, so current indicators are not a complete UK-wide comparison. Figures are often lagged, provisional or revised. This information is not medical advice.

Crime and policing

Street-level crime, categories, local policing context and area comparisons.

Main sources

  • Police.uk public data

Refresh and limits

Based on published monthly policing datasets.

Locations are anonymised and approximate. Recorded crime does not equal all crime.

Storm releases and environmental data

Storm overflow activity, bathing-water context and water-company performance summaries.

Main sources

  • Water-company public overflow feeds
  • Public environmental and bathing-water datasets where available

Refresh and limits

Varies by company and source feed. Some feeds may be live while others are periodic summaries.

Overflow activity is not the same as a measured water-quality result. Official warnings should take priority.
